Inside: Tracking medication is tedious and overwhelming. Skip the frustration and download the KnowYourMeds app.

Are you sick of wading through piles of papers hoping to find the results of your pulmonary exam that you took six years ago?

Do you wish that all of your medical history was easily accessible from the palm of your hand?

Look no further than KnowYourMeds.

If you’re living with a chronic illness, you know how painstaking it is to keep your medical records organized, much less track your medications and symptoms. KnowYourMeds is a breakthrough app with the goal of helping patients track medications and side effects

According to the company, “KnowYourMeds is a digital health app that uses the world’s largest database of suspected side/adverse effects along with AI-driven insights to inform patients and improve health outcomes through better adherence, early identification of drug interactions and early detection of potential medication errors.”

The company is dedicated to bridging the gap between patient health and medical data.

What’s so Great about KnowYourMeds?

Glad you asked…

KnowYourMeds makes it convenient for you to manage your health through benefits like:

  • The app is connected to government databases like the CDC and WHO, so you have the most up-to-date information on medication side effects and adverse reactions.
  • They partner with GoodRx, so you can find discounts directly from your app.
  • You can easily add your children or dependents, so you can manage your family’s health all in one place.
  • They have a PubMed Central research tab, so you can explore the latest scientific research on your condition.
  • It has a calendar that helps you remember when you last took your medicine.
  • It easily syncs with Apple Health to cut down on the amount of information you have to manually enter.

Because of my specific medical condition, I don’t actually have the opportunity to try different medications. However, I do take a lot of vitamins and think this app will be helpful in keeping track of those.

Here’s how it works…

Tracking Medical Information

When you download the KnowYourMeds app, you’ll be asked a series of questions including what medical condition your managing. Depending on your disease or condition, a list of metrics will appear that are specific to your health. You can then go in and add your available test results.

Once you’ve added your condition, there’s a check-up tab that will help you track when it’s time to take your next test.

Tracking Medications

As well as tracking your medical tests and appointments, the KnowYourMeds app will also help you keep track of medications, side effects and allergies.

Under the profile tab, you can add your medication and include the time of day they need to be taken, how they should be taken and the frequency. You can even add the refill date.

Also on the profile tab is a place to insert side effects that have resulted from your medication. So the next time that you feel a stomach cramp or a migraine coming on, you can now track these side effects to see if there’s any correlation with your medications.

Add Dependents

This is a huge benefit for families with kids or anyone who is responsible for someone else’s health. In our family, I’m responsible for basically keeping up with my son’s entire life.

My husband drives Asher to all of the doctor’s appointments, but I am in charge of scheduling them and staying updated on his vaccines and medications. Being able to add Asher in the app will help the next time someone asked me what vaccines he’s had and I look at them like a deer in headlights.

Asher, happy at the doctor.
Asher, not happy at the doctor.

This would also be a huge advantage if you’re looking after an elderly loved one!

Medication Calendar

Another really cool benefit of the app is that when you enter medications, they will automatically sync to a calendar. From here, you’ll have a visual reminder complete with colored icons that will help you keep track of the medication you’ve taken and at what time.

This is really helpful, because it can be hard to remember which vitamins and medication you’ve taken!

Medical Interactions

One of the best things about this app is the convenience that it provides for people dealing with chronic illness. For example, there is a medical interactions tab where you can enter up to four different medications and see how they would react when taken together.

This is incredibly helpful and will cut down on time spent searching these things out on your own. As a mom with chronic illness, I have my hands full managing work, a baby and my disability. Anything that can save me time during my day is a huge win.

Also, in all honesty, my chronic illness consumes so much of my life that sometimes I just don’t want to have to think about it. I’m all for an app that can cut down on the amount of time and energy that goes into searching online for medical answers!

Medical Research

Some doctors think I have a rare form of ALS called brachial amyotrophic diplegia. It’s so rare that none of my doctors have actually diagnosed anyone with it. Because of this, I must rely on medical research to try and understand my condition.

I LOVE that they included a medical research section from a peer-reviewed publication. It shows how dedicated the company is to making medical data more accessible for patients.

Prescription Discounts

If the pain, fatigue and stress from chronic illness weren’t enough, there’s always the exorbitant monthly prescription fees to complain about.

In October 2020, KnowYourMeds teamed up with GoodRx to offer prescription discounts. Just go under the My Offers tab and search the drug you’re looking for and a list of retailers will appear, starting with the cheapest.

Final Thoughts on the Med Tracker App KnowYourMeds

Up until now, I’ve been scanning all of my doctor’s notes on my desktop and organizing them via google drive. There hasn’t been a convenient place for me to digitally have all of my health information in one place.

I’m happy I found the KnowYourMeds app. It’s going to help keep my health information organized and keep me more informed. I would absolutely recommend checking them out!
