I had honestly never experienced anxiety until my health challenges. In one pivotal doctor’s appointment, I went from being your everyday 26-year-old stressed about minor things in life to staring death directly in the face.

Needless to say, this is when my anxiety started to spiral out of control.
Because of past family experiences with narcotics, I pretty much refused to take any kind of medication to try and control it. I suffered for years keeping my thoughts to myself while staying up for hours at night enduring never-ending panic attacks.
I’m now extremely proud to say that after about nine months of therapy, I’m at a place where I sleep peacefully through the night and experience virtually zero anxiety.
I’m passionate about therapy because I know what it has done for me, and I know what I could do for you, too.

What is BetterHelp?
Simply put, BetterHelp is online therapy. The company offers access to a licensed therapist available anytime, anywhere, through a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Its mission is: “Making professional therapy accessible, affordable, and convenient — so anyone who struggles with life’s challenges can get help, anytime and anywhere.”
What is the Signup Process Like?
After signing up, you’ll be matched with an available therapist who BetterHelp feels best fits your preferences, and the type of issues you are dealing with (don’t worry if it’s not a perfect match your first time around – it’s normal to change therapists if you’re not vibing). You’ll usually be matched in under 48 hours and your subscription period starts when you are matched with a therapist. Here’s a 20% BetterHelp promo code to get you started!
Are the therapists qualified?
According to the website, “therapists on BetterHelp are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), licensed clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), or licensed professional therapists (LPC).”
What is the monthly cost of BetterHelp?
Let’s face it – therapy isn’t cheap. Unfortunately, most American healthcare systems will not cover the cost of therapy. However, the positive benefits that you will gain from six months of intensive therapy cannot be understated. Therapy is well worth the investment! (You really can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep, right?)
Also, therapy isn’t meant to go on forever (which i didn’t know) – basically, go hot-and-heavy at the beginning and then, as you get better, your appointments will gradually decrease until you only need it once in a while.
With that being said, BetterHelp ranges from $60 to $90 per week (billed every 4 weeks) and it is based on your location, preferences, and therapist availability. You can cancel your membership at any time, for any reason.

Is BetterHelp right for me?
I feel so passionately about recommending BetterHelp because it gives people access to therapy who may have not otherwise been able to attend traditional therapy. People with disabilities and chronic illnesses face many challenges when it comes to leaving our home and comfortably navigating accessible spaces. It takes a lot of our limited energy, attention and strength.
BetterHelp Is a great option for people with chronic illnesses and disabilities, because when symptoms flare, you can take calls with her therapist from the comfort of your own bed.
What are the communication options for speaking with a therapist?
A lot of disabilities come with communication challenges. With that being said, BetterHelp offers four types of ways for speaking with your therapist: exchanging messages, chatting live, video conferencing and speaking on the phone.
Is BetterHelp accessible for disabled users?
BetterHelp delivers a web experience that is aligned with the most recent Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at the AA level. Please visit the Accessibility page to learn more.
Can I be reimbursed by my insurance?
In my experience, it’s rare to find a therapist that is covered under insurance and BetterHelp is no different. Services offered using BetterHelp are generally not covered by health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
According to the BetterHelp website:
Coverage and benefits for traditional therapy and therapy services change from one health insurance company to another and from plan to plan, but generally the following rules apply: With many health insurance plans, coverage can be partial or very limited. Even if your plan covers all your costs, the co-pay that you would be required to contribute may be higher than the entire cost of BetterHelp. In many cases, before you can get reimbursed by your insurance company, your therapist would have to diagnose you with a mental disorder or issue. This diagnosis would be sent to the insurance company and recorded in your medical file. In some cases the therapist would also have to provide additional clinical information to the insurance company, such as treatment plans, summaries or copies of the entire record.
Can BetterHelp prescribe medication?
Since BetterHelp therapists are not medical personnel, they are unable to prescribe any medications.
Final Thoughts on How BetterHelp Can Help You Manage Anxiety (Plus a BetterHelp Promo Code)
Therapy has helped me manage the symptoms of my chronic illness, particularly anxiety, more than anything else that I’ve tried. I would absolutely recommend giving BetterHelp a shot as it’s a great place to start if you’re uncomfortable leaving your house and need therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home.
